The newspaper is reporting, Apple is considering buying a long-vacant parcel of land in downtown Reno, The Tessera District, to build a purchasing and receiving center for its data center east of Sparks. The purchase would enable the company to take advantage of a tax break that will bring its sales tax rate on hundreds of millions of dollars worth of computer equipment to just 0.5 percent. On Wednesday, the Reno City Council will decide whether to approve an agreement that will allow Apple to be eligible for the city tax break if it purchases the land, an eight-block swath of land in northeast downtown.
