Reno’s Municipal Court has launched two technology features designed to improve service. The first gives customers the ability to request new court dates online, helping reduce long lines and minimize trips to the courthouse. On the court’s website, “renomunicipalcourt.com,” defendants can simply click “Request New Court Date” to complete the online form and electronically submit a request. The court’s goal is to respond via email within two hours confirming the new court date. The second is a texting service to remind defendants of upcoming court dates or fine payment dates. When people are given citations, police will ask if they want to “opt-in” for text notifications. If they agree, drivers will provide their cell phone numbers and the court will text them one week in advance of the court date.
