(KOH) – A bear was shot by a Washoe County Deputy this morning in Incline Village. A mother bear and 3 cubs were reported to be near residences just north of Incline High School. The bears had been previously identified as food aggressive and WCSO had numerous contacts with them. According to the sheriff’s office, one of the deputies intended to shoot a rubber bullet to scare the bear, but accidentally loaded a live round. The Nevada Department of Wildlife was notified and transported the wounded bear to a vet. No information is currently available on the condition of the bear. NDOW says the cubs are old enough to be on their own and the department will develop a management plan for them.
UPDATE 7:15am Sun May 7: NDOW reports that the mother bear has died due to her injuries.
