Douglas County’s ‘Drug Take Back Day’ a Success

Douglas County Sheriff’s Office participated in the Drug Enforcement’s Drug Take Back Day April 29th. Citizen Patrol volunteers staffed five locations in Douglas County so that residents could drop off unwanted or expired prescriptions along with over the counter medications. Staff was able to turn in 18 boxes of medications, which was more than last October’s collection. The majority of prescription drug abusers said in a survey that they get their drugs through friends, family or going through a medicine cabinet. Cleaning out a medicine cabinet helps prevents overdoses, which numbered 78 a day in the US in 2014.
