In an effort to fix the roads in the South Lake Tahoe area, the city may add a measure to the ballot next year to raise the sales tax by a half a percent. The city had a consultant research the possibility of it passing, and 66 percent of those polled said they’d vote for it. The city will now draw up the measure, and if they give it the ok, voters will decide if the tax should go up. A measure on last year’s ballot asked voters if they’d approve a half cent tax hike, and it was voted down. The sales tax rate dropped to 7.75 percent this year, and the addition of a half-percent increase would bring it up to 8.25 percent.
