The Nevada Senate passed a bill extending support for energy efficiency measures to renters, seniors, people on fixed incomes and low-income families. The bill, sponsored by Assemblyman William McCurdy, passed the Senate without a single dissenting vote. Earlier this month, the Nevada Assembly passed the energy efficiency bill, also unanimously. The bill now heads back to the Assembly for a final vote to bring the legislative language into agreement, then to Gov. Brian Sandoval for his signature to become law. Advocates for Nevada’s clean energy economy supported the legislation as a key step towards reducing energy use, saving consumers money and reducing pollution from fossil fuels. The bill would put at least 5 percent of energy-efficiency spending towards low-income energy consumers, and customers could cut their energy bills by as much as half.
