Local Teen Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison For Armed Robbery

The Washoe County District Attorney’s Office has sentenced 16-year-old Steven Murch of Reno, to 15 years in prison for robbing a Lemmon Valley 7-11 employee at gunpoint. Murch was sentenced on Wednesday to a maximum of 10 years in prison for robbery and a consecutive term of 5 years for having used a firearm. Due to his criminal history, Murch was tried as an adult. During the robbery in November 2016, prosecutors say Murch entered the 7-11 around 3:20 a.m. armed with a handgun and wearing a mask. A co-defendant, 15-year-old Joseph Wall-Ortiz, was armed with a knife. Prosecutors say the two demanded money and Murch held a gun to the employee’s head, while Wall-Ortiz emptied the register and stole cigarettes. Murch fired a shot into the ceiling as the two ran away.
