River Warnings Released Ahead of The Holiday Weekend

Washoe County and City of Reno Emergency officials have been warning the public for weeks about the danger of swimming or rafting on the Truckee River during spring runoff. Now Carson City is issuing the same warning about the Carson River. Officials say if you see someone fall into the Carson river, don’t go in after them because the water is moving on average of about 10 miles an hour, and you could also get caught in the current. Instead, call 911. It only takes a current of 5 mph hour to sweep you off your feet and down stream. Tell someone where you’re going on the river, and when you expect to return, so if you don’t show up, rescuers will know where to find you. And, always carry a fully charges cell phone with you, in a water proof bag.
