Gov. Brian Sandoval wants the state to do more to identify and track patients with addictive behavior, and foresee regional drug overdose trends. One of the Governor’s plans would expand a computerized system of prescription drug data and track reports of overdoses in real time. He says that could allow health and safety officials to foresee and respond to overdose trends. He would also mandate that doctors do mental health evaluations before prescribing narcotic painkillers to patients for the first time.
