The South Lake Tahoe Police Department is continuing their investigation into former Lake Tahoe Humane Society Executive Director Niki Congero, who’s suspected of embezzling from the organization. A search warrant was served on her June 1st, where officers found and confiscated a sofa rented at Rent-A-Center with money taken from the agency, and they also retrieved bank documents from her home. South Lake Tahoe Police say during their investigation they also discovered that Congero was frequenting the Dotty’s Casino at Stateline, using the humane society’s card to withdraw money at that location. Congero’s lawyer says mismanagement of money by the agency, rather than his client, are to blame for the shortfall. Congero was fired in March.
