Patients, doctors, hospitals and leading national organizations are joining together in Reno to highlight concerns about health care repeal proposals being discussed in Congress. The groups—which include AARP, the American Cancer Society Action Network, American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association, Northern Nevada HOPES and others- are urging lawmakers to “Protect Patients First,” and will address shortcomings in four main areas: affordability of insurance, access to essential care, protection for those on Medicaid, and protections for those with employer-sponsored health insurance. Under AHCA, the 440,000 Nevadans under 65 years old with pre-existing health conditions, such as diabetes, cancer or heart disease, could see their insurance premiums skyrocket. The meeting is Wednesday June 21st at 10:30 a.m. at Northern Nevada HOPES 580 West 5th Street in Reno.
