The Elko Bureau of Land Management is reporting a 750-acre wildfire burning 5 miles northwest of Jiggs . The fire is currently 5% contained. The Red Springs Fire was reported just before 2p.m. Tuesday, it was sparked by lightning. According to InciWeb, crews are working to protect any threatened structures. The fire is expected to be contained by 5 p.m. Friday.
The Hollywood Fire burning east of Nixon has scorched 43 hundred acres, and is now 50% contained. It’s burning on BLM Land. Lightning is the likely cause of the fire. No structures are threatened.
The Garson Fire burning near Boomtown is 60% contained, it’s burned about 141 acres.
The Evans Fire has blackened 167 acres near Bordertown. It’s at least 25% contained and forward progress has been stopped.
Containment is expected today (June 21) on an 11 thousand acre fire burning in Pershing County.
The fire is burning 3 miles west of Rye Patch and broke out sometime Monday night. No structures were threatened and there were no evacuations.
A 33-acre brush fire in Churchill County has been contained. Sierra Front reports the Alpine Fire burned near the Austin Highway. According to the Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center, the fire was reported Tuesday night by the Churchill County Sheriff’s Office. The fire burned on the north side of U.S. 50, about 5 miles east of the Cold Springs area. Firefighters say lightning is the likely cause.
