City of Reno Gets a Grant to Promote Recycling at Local Parks

A lot of us recycle at home, but how can you recycle when you’re out at the park? The City of Reno received a grant to help you do just that.  The Dr. Pepper/Snapple group awarded the city an $11,000 grant to buy 20 recycling bins to be placed at parks and sports complexes throughout the city. Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful will measure the effectiveness of the new recycling program in its annual litter survey. City Councilmember Jenny Breckhus says the new bins will complement the city’s household recycling program. A recent national survey by Keep America Beautiful found that although 90% of us found it was easy to recycle at home, more than 55% found it difficult to recycle in public places such as parks. You’ll see the new bins at Idlewild, Wingfield, Hilltop, Jack Tighe, the Terrace Sports Complex on Robb Drive, and at Swope and Vaughn middle schools. Now it’s just up to us to use them.
