Reno Murder Rate Hits 32 Year Low

The annual report from Reno Police says last year the city had its lowest murder rate in 32 years. There were 15 murders each in 2015 and 2015, that dropped to nine last year. Reno has averaged 11.9 murders per year since 1985. The worst year for murders was 2006 when there were 23, although the highest murder rate was 1994 when there were 13.8 per 100,000 people. In other crimes listed in the report, vehicle burglaries were up 32 percent from 2015 to 2016 and assault was up 27 percent. Robberies were up 14 percent, thefts were up 6 percent, sexual assault was up 2 percent and burglaries dropped by 16 percent.
