Fire Update: Long Valley and Farad Fires

The fire burning about three miles north of Doyle, the Long Valley Fire has blown up to 17,000 acres. It’s been burning since Tuesday afternoon. The Lassen County Sheriffs Office says the Fort Sage Off Highway Vehicle Area has been evacuated, and Fort Sage Road is closed, other nearby residents are being advised to be prepared to evacuate. According to BLM three structures have burned, not clear yet if they’re homes or outbuildings. Most of the fire area is considered pretty remote. If you’re driving through that area, expect slow traffic on US 395.

The Farad Fire, that started on July 10 has grown to 670 acres and is 20% contained. After crews and aircraft worked toward containment over the last two days, fire activity has decreased. Eight aircraft including helicopters and air tankers played a significant role in limiting the fire’s spread by dropping thousands of gallons of water and retardant. Visible smoke and flame can still be expected and motorists are cautioned to drive carefully, watching for fire trucks entering and exiting the freeway.
