California Man Charged With Manslaughter in Truckee Coach’s Death

A Sacramento man has been arrested and charged with vehicular manslaughter in the April 1 crash that killed former Truckee High School coach Robert Douglas Shaffer. David John Slaughter, is being held in the Nevada County jail on $125,000 bail. Shaffer died after a head-on crash on California 89 in Sierra County south of the Cold Creek campground. Shaffer, was going north at about 9:30 at night when Slaughter drifted into the northbound lane and hit Shaffer’s vehicle.
