Roosters Comb Fire Contained at 218,000 Acres North of Battle Mountain

The Roosters Comb Fire burned about 218,380 acres, or about 341 square miles, and is 100 percent contained, according to the US Forest Service. It burned 25 miles north of Battle Mountain. The cause is still undetermined. The fire started July 9th. Containment was declared Monday. Mining operations at Bootstrap, Rossi, Barrick Goldstrike and Newmont Gold mines were affected by the fire and worked with the incident team to prepare for next steps in case the fire was an imminent threat. Newmont and Barrick volunteered heavy equipment to aid in fire operations on the northeast side.
