Elko County Sheriff Jim Pitts says he estimates at least 12 homes have been destroyed in the Oil Well Fire. The fire, which broke out July 17th, on the northeast side of the county near Kittredge Canyon, has burned about 7,466 acres, according to Elko Interagency Dispatch. Sheriff Pitts says the homes destroyed have been in the Osino and White Rock Road areas; those neighborhoods have been evacuated. People who have been evacuated have been taken to the Elko High School gym, where the Red Cross is assisting.
