Fire restrictions go into effect July 25 within the Tahoe National Forest. According to Forest Supervisor Eli Ilano, “After record precipitation this past winter, hot and dry summer weather has created conditions on the Forest that could support large fire growth. We want to ensure a fun and safe summer for everyone.”
No open fires, campfires or charcoal fires are allowed on Tahoe National Forest lands outside of designated areas, even with a valid California Campfire Permit. Lanterns and portable stoves using gas, jellied petroleum or pressurized liquid fuel are allowed, unless otherwise restricted, with a valid California Campfire Permit, available from Forest Service offices during business hours and at “preventwildfireca.org-forward slash-Campfire-Permit.” No welding or operating an acetylene or other torch with an open flame. Smoking is limited to inside vehicles or developed campgrounds. If you see a wildfire, report it immediately by dialing 911.
