Life Sentence For Sun Valley Man Who Killed Teen

A Sun Valley man received a life sentence for second degree murder in the death of a 16-year-old Sun Valley boy. Jonathan Zurisday Jaramillo was 18 years old when he shot and killed Gerardo Reyes Oct. 9th, 2015, in Sun Valley. Reyes had been at a bonfire in the backyard of an Igloo Street home when Jaramillo shot him once in the back. Someone dismantled and hid the gun Jaramillo used but the Regional Gang Unit found it within hours of the shooting and arrested Jaramillo. The district attorney’s office argued for a strong sentence, noting Jaramillo had a juvenile record that included violence and also committed battery while being held for trial on the murder charge.  Washoe District Court Judge Patrick Flanagan gave Jaramillo another 20 years in prison for using a deadly weapon and six years for committing battery in the jail.
