Man Accused of Attacking a Deputy Last Week Identified

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office says the man accused of slashing a deputy in the head Friday night has a lengthy criminal history. According to Sheriff Ken Furlong, Deputy Chris Rivera suffered severe head wounds when he was allegedly stabbed by 34-year-old Michael Cruz, a transient. During the altercation, Cruz was shot multiple times by Deputy Rivera. Cruz remains in the hospital under tightly guarded security while he recovers from his wounds. Cruz has a history of conflict, and was most recently arrested in Douglas County for trespassing in February. Other previous arrests in Nevada and California included Domestic Battery, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Making Annoying Phone Calls, Taking a Bear without a License, Disorderly Conduct, and Vandalism.
