Reno Police officers have a plan in place to protect everyone who’s attending the American Legion convention at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center today for President Donald’s Trump’s visit.
RPD will be assisted by Washoe County Sheriffs Department, Sparks Police, Carson City Sheriffs, and the Secret Service. Reno Police Chief Jason Soto wants everyone to know that the major arteries around the center, like Kietzke, Virginia and Peckham will be closed, so a staging area will be set up for anyone who wants to demonstrate outside of the convention-center, so it can be done safely.
Chief Soto says “Reno has always done a real good job in terms of our citizens and our advocacy groups being respectful, being peaceful with one another. Respecting each others’ values, even though they might not agree with them. And they’ve always done a really good job of that and we anticipate that that will continue.”
Soto is advising you to stay out the area of the convention center 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 pm, as traffic will be heavy. The President is expected to speak at 10:30, but his speech is not open to the public.
