Carson City fire crews have contained the brush fire that was burning in the hills behind Casino Fandango in West Carson City. The Carson City Fire Department says the Voltaire Canyon Fire grew to about 135 acres. Precautionary evacuation notifications went out for the Koontz Lane and Curry Street areas, but those have all been lifted. The lightning-started fire was first reported about 2PM Tuesday.
The Sparks Fire Department continues to fight a brush fire at I-80 and Vista. It’s burning through brush on the southern slope from I-80, toward the previous “S” hill fire. The I-80 Fire is estimated at about 200 acres. No containment has been declared, but no structures are threatened, and firefighters say overnight humidity helped curtail some of the flames. Businesses on nearby Salomon Circle were evacuated, but all evacuation orders have been lifted.
Sierra Front says the Lyons Fire has burned about 500 acres, south of Lyon Peak, east of Carson City on the east side of Sunrise Pass in the Pine Nuts. Bureau of Land Management is overseeing that fire.
Lyon County Manager Jeff Page says the Micro Fire, burning southwest of Silver Springs and southeast of Stagecoach, is not threatening structures. That fire, which broke out near Churchill Butte at about 4:30 yesterday is estimated at 1100 acres.
The Argosy Fire has burned about 65 acres east of Prairie Dog Court off North Red Rock Road. Coordinates originally pegged it just west of Animal Ark, but information has changed. Sierra Front says BLM is handling that fire. The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office says there are no evacuations connected to that fire.
