Reno City Council Considering Anti-Vagrancy Ordinances

Reno City Council is being asked to consider a host of new anti-vagrancy ordinances designed to discourage less-than-desirable behaviors. They include spitting on public property, sitting or lying down on the ReTrac Plaza, and sleeping on public or private property without permission.  Violating any of these would be a misdemeanor, punishable with a fine and possibly up to 200 hours of community service.  Opponents are worried some of these ordinances unfairly target the homeless population, but Councilwoman Neoma Jardon says these ordinances are about starting Reno on a path of revitalization.

The council will likely vote on the ordinances in September.
