Carson City fire crews have contained the brush fire that was burning in the hills behind Casino Fandango in West Carson City. The Carson City Fire Department says the Voltaire Canyon Fire grew to about 135 acres. Precautionary evacuation notifications went out for the Koontz Lane and Curry Street areas, but those have all been lifted. The lightning-started fire was first reported about 2PM Tuesday. No structures were burned, and no injuries were reported.
Sierra Front says the 70 acre Mogul fire is now 50% contained; fire fighters were out there all night with Structure Protection Teams. Ten homes in the area were under an evacuation order, but that was lifted Wednesday evening. There was one heat related injury from the fire that was first reported around 2:20 Wednesday afternoon. At one time, it was believed the fire had grown to 120 acres. Multiple agencies are fighting the fire with Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District.
Several rural fires started by lightning are keeping Northern Nevada firefighters busy. The Bureau of Land Management says the Micro Fire, burning southwest of Silver Springs and southeast of Stagecoach, is not threatening structures. It’s about 1,100 acres and is 50% contained.
BLM says the Lyons Fire has grown to about 1,500 acres, south of Lyon Peak, east of Carson City.
About 574 acres have burned in the Two Dens Fire, about an hour east of Fallon. No structures threatened.
