Tourist Struck by Lightning in The Sierra Nevada

An Austrian tourist who was hiking with his girlfriend and a friend in a remote wilderness area of the Sierra Nevada was rescued after surviving a lighting strike. Mathias Steinhuber, had major burns throughout his body and was struggling to walk when a helicopter crew rescued him Tuesday from the remote wilderness area near Donner Summit. Steinhuber’s girlfriend said she was watching him take a picture when all of the sudden she saw a bright white flash. Steinhuber was thrown by the strike, and his clothes and shoes were ripped off from his body. He had an entry wound on his hand and an exit wound on his foot.
