Voluntary Evacuations Due to Slinkard Fire

Sierra Front Dispatch says the Slinkard Fire has burned from California into Nevada, crossed Highway 89 and is now at 65-hundred acres, or more than 10-point-two square miles. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office says there are voluntary evacuations in the area behind Topaz Lodge. Topaz has been evacuated north of Hwy 89 to the Nevada state line. The Douglas County Community and Senior Center is available as an evacuation center. There are road closures for public safety. Highway 89 remains closed between 395 and Highway 4, at Monitor Pass). North of the fire, U.S. 395 is closed from Bridgeport to the state line. Residents are allowed in with proper ID. In Topaz Ranch Estates, Highway 208 is back open after being closed. Yesterday, the fire’s growth was mostly on the northwestern flank uphill from Topaz and towards Alpine County.
