(KOH) – Many of the high school football games under the Friday Night Lights are closely contested, and sometimes tempers flare. But we haven’t seen anything recently like the game in Henderson yesterday. The visiting Canyon Springs Pioneers spoiled Basic’s homecoming by beating the Wolves 20-15. It was close throughout, and let’s say the game got a little …. chippy. The referees were hard pressed to keep the game under control – they threw at least 35 flags for more than 300 yards of penalties, most of which were assessed after the play for personal fouls or unsportsmanlike conduct. Four Canyon Springs players were ejected, including starting quarterback DiaMante Burton. At the end of the game, a brouhaha ensued with players and coaches throwing punches and swinging helmets for around 30 seconds, before Clark County School District police waded in and sprayed a cloud of pepper spray that quelled the brawl. School police said no arrests were made. Henderson Police assisted with crowd control as fans exited.
