The House of Representatives has passed legislation introduced by Senator Dean Heller that would help Nevadans better understand complicated financial investments. The Fair Access to Investment Research Act now heads to the President’s desk for his signature. Currently, securities laws provide legal protections for broker-dealers to provide research reports for several asset classes such as listed stocks and corporate debt – but not for Exchange Traded Funds. The Fair Access to Investment Research Act would create parity in the law by allowing broker-dealers to publish public research reports on ETFs, which millions of households invest in. Heller says making this research readily available for consumers and investors in Nevada will go a long way to helping people better understand the benefits and risks before investing their hard-earned money. The bill passed the Senate unanimously earlier this month.
