Homeless Get Cybersecurity Training in Las Vegas

According to the University of Phoenix, more than 40,000 jobs are going unfilled each year in industries like cybersecurity. They say it will take more than just college students to fill them.

The Hero School is a Las Vegas nonprofit that helps people get out of the rut of homelessness by offering what it calls “rapid dehomelessing interventions” and homeless prevention curricula. Now they’re offering hands-on training for a new skill – cybersecurity – by teaming up with the RedFlint Experience Center, a business incubator owned by the University of Phoenix. Dennis Bonilla, dean of the College of Information Systems and Technology, says that the homeless can learn the foundational cybersecurity skills and knowledge that can help them start a career in 20 minutes. All the training is free to the homeless or houseless.
