Chief Judge Patrick Flanagan Dies After Sudden Illness

(KOH) – Washoe District Court Chief Judge Patrick Flanagan died Friday just days after being hospitalized for flu-like symptoms.  Flanagan had been a district judge since 2007, and was unanimously elected as Chief Judge in January 2016. A bicycle accident in 2001 left him paralyzed, but that didn’t stop him from earning a 3rd degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do in 2003. Flanagan served as president of the Washoe County Bar Association, the State Bar of Nevada, and the Nevada Chapter of the Federal Bar Association. Washoe County Commissioner Chairman Bob Lucey said Judge Flanagan was a strong leader and supporter of our community, who worked to provide legal aid and pro bono legal services to citizens in need.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 12 at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Snows Church in Reno.
