The Truckee Ranger District of the U.S. Forest Service will conduct a prescribed burn north of Truckee today. The burn west of California 89 is expected to be 40 to 90 acres. The district said the burn will happen only if weather, fuel conditions and smoke dispersal are favorable. The burn has apparently been planned for years but they have never done it due to weather or availability of resources. The goal of prescribed burns to reduce fuel so wildfires either don’t start or do not burn as hot as they would otherwise.
