Nearly 50 Cases of Meningitis Reported in Washoe County Since June

Washoe County Health District reports 47 cases of meningitis so far since July 15th, an increase from 30 cases reported in October. Phil Ulibarri says three viruses are connected to the outbreak, and that the county is working with the Centers for Disease Control. 43 of the patients have required hospitalization. 75% are children, according to Ulibarri, and 55% of them are between the ages of five and 17. They are not connected to any one school or other organization.
