Rain is helping firefighters in their efforts to suppress the 370-acre Chris Fire. The fire is now 70 percent contained. The Chris Fire was started by a vehicle accident on U.S. Route 395 about five miles north of Sonora Junction near the Chris Flat Campground around 11:28 a.m. on Nov. 13. The fire burned west into National Forest System lands managed by the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forests Bridgeport Ranger District. Today, Fire crews continue to reinforce the fireline in the lower elevation areas. The management of the Chris Fire will transitioned to a Type 4 incident commander at 5 p.m. Fire resources are currently in the process of being released.
