The RGJ is reporting that an error made in the per pupil spending formula by the state caused the 6.6 million dollar “Surprise” shortfall last summer at the Washoe County School District. That’s exactly what the school district asserted at the time, while the state Department of Education blamed the miscalculation on the district. The state will dip into contingency funds to get some of the funding, 1.6 million, back to the Washoe County School District. In June the state sent 5 million dollars to help close the budget hole.
