Congressman Mark Amodei released a statement after signing the discharge petition relating to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals or “DACA” program. The purpose of the petition is to bypass the legislative committee process, which in Amodei’s opinion, has produced no results for the last six years. Amodei says some of his colleagues believe DACA is the perfect material to insert into an end of the year spending bill, tax reform bill, or other major legislation–and he disagrees. Amodei says signing this discharge petition represents the only tool left as an individual Member of Congress to keep his word by doing everything he can to bring the DACA issue to the House Floor for a vote, before the end of this year. Amodei says “Once again, this falls into the category of I’d rather be criticized for attempting to move an issue toward a solution, than watching nothing happen on issues for years.” Amodei has said before, it’s impossible to defend doing nothing in circumstances like this.
