Drivers “Click It” But Are Still Speeding and Using Cell Phones

Statistics from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office participation in a recent Joining Forces “Click it or Ticket” traffic safety campaign indicate that drivers are buckling up, but still need to drive within posted speed limits and stay off their cellphones. Of the 124 citations issued during this two week traffic safety campaign, only five were for seat belt violations. But more than 60 citations were issued for speeding and 22 were issued for cellphone use. The Sheriff’s Office, along with officers from the Reno Police Department, Sparks Police Department and Nevada Highway Patrol conducted the “Click it or Ticket” campaign from November 18 through December 2nd, making 97 traffic stops. Although a driver may be stopped for one violation, several other violations may be observed during the subsequent investigation making it possible that a driver may be issued citations for numerous violations.
