This year’s flu is the worst on record in at least a decade; 53 children have died amid the national flu epidemic, according to the Centers for Disease Control. Medical professionals say the strain seems to be more virulent, it seems to come on more quickly and those who are very young or very old seem to get sicker. It’s especially risky for those who have other serious or chronic illnesses. There have been at least 15 deaths in Washoe County blamed on flu complications.
