We’ve talked a lot about Flu this year, but not so much about canine influenza, which has now shown up in Nevada. Our news partners at KOLO 8 News Now talked with Veterinarian Dr. Rick Furman with Klaich Animal Hospital. He says there is no local immunity to it, because it hasn’t been here before. His clinic has three confirmed cases of dog flu, but there may be as many as 100. Dr. Furman says a dog with the flu may run a fever and have a cough, but most dogs don’t get horribly ill. There are vaccinations to prevent it, and if you’ve been in contact with dogs, change your close before you have contact with yours. He suggests avoiding dog parks and hiking trails until the outbreak settles down.
