The 2018 “Prosperity Now” Scorecard found that unemployment in Nevada is at its lowest rate since 2007, and average annual pay for workers has increased nearly 2% in the last year. Despite these gains, however, income inequality increased in Nevada last year; the richest 20% of households now earn 4.3 times more than the poorest 20%. . Nevada’s 48th-place outcome ranking declined slightly from last year’s 46th-place ranking. The Scorecard grades states on their progress in the five key outcome areas; Nevada received a “D” in four of five areas, and an “F” in Homeownership & Housing. Nevadans have the highest rate of high-cost mortgage loans and the fourth-lowest homeownership rate in the country. In better news, income inequality in Nevada is lower than in all but eight states in the nation, and the state ranks 5th for employers offering health insurance.
