The Nevada Highway Patrol says unsafe passing may have led to a fatal crash on US 95, three miles south of the intersection with I-80 in Churchill County. Preliminary investigation indicates the driver of a Chevy Malibu with six passengers was headed north of 95 at the same time a Chrysler PT Cruiser was being driven southbound. The driver of the Chevy tried to pass a semi-truck, entering the southbound lane in a marked passing zone. The left front of the Malibu hit the left front of the PT Cruiser. The driver of the PT Cruiser, 62-year-old Annetta Faye Egbert of Lovelock, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Malibu was flown to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno with serious injuries; the passengers were taken by ambulance to Renown with serous injuries.
