Elko is continuing a ban on both recreational and medical marijuana dispensaries, despite a two and a half hour public hearing filled with personal testimonies from medical users. The Elko Daily Free Press reports a dozen letters were read and a dozen spoke at the meeting, all but two advocated for medical marijuana. Some said they’d used marijuana as an alternative to opiods for chronic pain. Some council members cited federal law for the ban, others argued that a mixed message about drug use would be sent to young people, if dispensaries were allowed.
