(KOH) – Truckee Meadows Fire and Sparks Fire are getting together to improve the efficiency of emergency fire response. We all expect that the nearest fire engine will be dispatched in an emergency, but that’s not always the case due to agency boundaries and often two engines end up at the scene. Now, Truckee Meadows Fire will be the first responder in areas north of Los Altos Parkway along Pyramid Highway, and in Wingfield Springs north of General Thatcher Drive. Sparks Fire will respond to incidents in areas south of Los Altos, including the Wedekind Drive neighborhood.
Sparks Fire Chief Chris Maples says that 96% of calls are not related to fires, so this agreement will keep engines ready to respond to medical emergencies instead of duplicating services.
