A chase involving three counties is undergoing further investigation as weapons were found in the suspect’s vehicle.
Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said the suspect of the chase is dead and evidence recovered at the scene suggested the suspect may have died from a self-inflicted wound to the head. The cause of death will be determined by the Washoe County Medical Examiner later this week.
In a press release, Furlong said a semi-automatic pistol, an AR-15 style rifle, and a 9mm single ejected bullet casing were recovered from the SUV.
The incident began around 9:39 a.m. Saturday when a deputy of Storey County Sheriff’s Office tried to stop a vehicle along the road that connects Interstate 80 and U.S. 50 west of Silver Springs.
The suspect then drove south on U-S-A Parkway, then turned onto U.S. 50 towards Dayton.
The Nevada Highway Patrol put down spike strips at the V&T railroad overpass in Mound House and the Carson City Sheriff’s Office stopped the vehicle at Flint Road near U.S. 50 in Carson City, at the Lyon County line.
According to Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, the man driving the car had an arrest warrant in California for a parole violation.
The scene delayed traffic in Carson City for at least six hours. As a result of the incident, Furlong said at least one minor traffic accident in Lyon County was recorded—a Carson City Ambulance responding to the incident was involved in a minor collision—and one Carson City Deputy fired a shot at the suspect’s vehicle.
The Nevada Department of Public Safety is leading the investigation.
