Zoning Changes Coming to The Washoe County School District

The Washoe County School District is making some changes to their school zoning boundaries. Those changes will go into effect during the 2019-2020 school year. That means starting in 2019, some students will be heading to new schools. Theresa Birchfield, chairperson of the zoning committee spoke to our news partner KOLO 8. She says they understand this could be difficult for some families.

The District is offering variances that will be automatically accepted for the 2019-2020 school year. That way students who are in the last year of middle school wouldn’t have to move to a new school right before advancing to high school. Same goes for students going into 5th grade in 2019.
