The City of Reno is considering ordinances banning panhandlers in medians on local roadways. Next week the city council will consider an ordinance banning any pedestrian from standing for any length of time on a traffic island or median. The city says it’s not the panhandling hat is the concern, apparently that’s legal. Its concern is for the safety of the people standing in the middle of the street. The City Attorneys office says this should be of no concern to pedestrians, and that the plan is to warn people off the medians, not make arrests.
