Nevada’s Lethal Drugs Will Expire Before Execution

(KOH) – Some of the drugs Nevada officials secured for a planned lethal injection of a killer who wants to die, will expire before the state Supreme Court rules whether they can be used. Brooke Santina of the Department of Corrections says stocks of a sedative obtained last year for an /untried three-drug cocktail expire May 1, and she says the state may not be able to get more. None of the nearly 250 vendors contacted in 2016 to provide execution drugs even replied. The state high court hears arguments May 8, but an immediate ruling isn’t expected. Justices are reviewing the plan drawn up last year for the execution of Scott Dozier for two murders in 2002 in Phoenix and Las Vegas.
