Casino Strike Could Cause Big Damage to Las Vegas Economy

Las Vegas area casino workers have authorized a strike, if a deal on a new five year contract isn’t reached.
Contracts for 50,000 employees including bartenders, housekeepers, bellhops and porters expire at the end of the month at 34 Las Vegas Strip and downtown Vegas resorts. The last citywide strike was in 1984, it lasted 67 days and affected 32 resort properties. The workers want better pay and health benefits, and protection from layoffs, and stronger workplace safety measures.
