RTC Reducing Bus Fares for All, Providing Benefits for Seniors and Vets

The Regional Transportation Commission Board recently approved making bus passes more affordable for everyone, and extending reduced-fare eligibility to benefit Veterans and seniors. The RTC is also simplifying transit-fare options to make buying a bus pass easier and to encourage more people to use transit. Veterans will be eligible for reduced ares and the age for reduced senior-fare eligibility will decrease from 65 to 60, allowing more seniors and Veterans to qualify for reduced fares. An example of the fare decreases, a seven day pass will drop from a top fare of $19.50, to a top fare of $9.75. Day passes will cost 3 dollars instead of five. RTC’s Executive Director Lee Gibson says they hope it’s a strong incentive for more ridership.
