Sparks High needed to raise a minimum of $6,000 to replace 24 helmets that were deemed unfit for use by the football team. They were scheduled to lose another 17 by next year; 41 of their 90 helmets total for all three levels of football. Thanks to numerous donations and a fundraiser, the Railroaders raised $40,000. The money has allowed Sparks to buy new helmets and shoulder pads, plus save some money in a fund for future needs. Coach Brad Rose plans to buy five new helmets in each of the next ten years to make sure they’re always replenishing their base of equipment. He is grateful for the community support.
